About

Thousands of young people are routinely denied access to the vibrant myths, literature and languages of the ancient world because of where they come from. In the UK, classical subjects - Latin, ancient Greek, ancient history and classical civilisation - are taught in only 25% of state schools, compared to 75% of independent schools.

Classics for All aims to address this inequality by supporting the teaching of classics in state schools, so that all pupils, regardless of background or ability, can enjoy classics. Since 2010, Classics for All has brought classics to over 1,100 state schools, giving over 144,000 pupils access to all things classical - from Latin to Homeric epic. Their mission is to introduce classics in 1,700 state schools by 2025.

Classics for All is a cause that is close to our hearts and we completely share the charity's vision of making classics an accessible, inclusive subject. That's why we are taking part in the Hadrian's Wall Virtual Walk as a Faculty to fundraise for Classics for All.

Over the month of September, we will be walking 84 miles - the equivalent length of Hadrian's Wall - on its 1,900th anniversary! It's a long way, but we know we can do it with your motivation. To keep us going on our classical odyssey, we are asking for donations toward my fundraiser for Classics for All.

Any amount you can give is greatly appreciated by all of us at Classics at Cambridge and by Classics for All. Your contribution will help widen opportunities for children from all backgrounds to study classics - a wonderfully rich and varied subject that improves literacy, encourages cultural insight and drives social mobility.

Please give what you can. Thank you so much for your support!
